Questions Preguntas

# Common questions.

Reaching out to a therapist for the first time is rarely a small thing. Most people arrive with a mix of hope and hesitation — and a stack of practical questions they'd like answered before they book a call. The questions below are the ones I hear most often in consultations, gathered in one place so you can move through them at your own pace.

Back to Joy is the private psychotherapy practice of Flor Villagran, a licensed mental health therapist providing bilingual (English / Spanish) telehealth to adults in New York, Utah, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The work is relational, paced, and grounded in the long arc of adult change — not a fixed protocol or a set number of sessions. If you're weighing whether therapy is the right next step, these answers are meant to help you decide with more information, not less.

A few themes come up in almost every consultation: how licensure and telehealth work across state lines, what to expect from fees and insurance reimbursement, the shape of a first session, and what kinds of concerns are and aren't a fit for my practice. There are also more specific questions — cancellation policy, technology requirements, session length, how the bilingual work actually functions when your inner life moves between two languages. All of that is below.

If your question isn't here, the fastest way to get a real answer is a free 15-minute consultation. It's a low-pressure video call where you can describe what's bringing you in, hear a little about how I work, and get a felt sense for whether we might be a good clinical match. If we're not, I'm glad to point you toward colleagues who might be.
